How to Coach and Teach the Wheel Man

How to Coach and Teach the Wheel Man-to-Man Basketball Offense When it comes to coaching basketball fundamentals, you must consider continuity offenses. For example, most basketball zone offenses involve continuity, floor balance by rotating the ball rapidly from one side of the court to the other while filling the perimeter passing lanes as cutters penetrate into or through the zone defense. It’s all about winning hoops, folks! To the best of my knowledge, the Wheel Offense is the Daddy of all continuous pattern offenses. It was followed by the “Auburn Shuffle” and then, the “Flex Offense” used much, today. I’ve have had experience teaching all three basketball offenses in my days of coaching youth basketball.

This play allows a team to get open looks on the perimeter early in an offensive possession. This is a versatile play as every player can potentially get a shot out of it. Preferably your 2 and 3 are good shooters. The point guard must be a good decision maker to find the open player.

About I became very interested in researching the single wing and I was constantly searching the Internet looking for information on the offense.

There is no way to improve on football beyond the unbalanced line single-wing — Carl Snavely [3] [4] Among coaches, single-wing football denotes a formation using a long snap from center as well as a deceptive scheme that evolved from Glenn “Pop” Warner ‘s offensive style. Traditionally, the single-wing was an offensive formation that featured a core of four backs including a tailback, a fullback, a quarterback blocking back , and a wingback.

Linemen were set “unbalanced”, or simply put, there were two linemen on one side and four on the other side of the center. This was done by moving the off-side guard or tackle to the strong side. The single-wing was one of the first formations attempting to trick the defense instead of over-powering it. Pop Warner referred to his new offensive scheme as the Carlisle formation because he formulated most of the offense while coaching the Carlisle Indians.

The titular character is a vagrant who gains vast psychic powers from an experimental drug and uses them maliciously for profit and amusement, only to lose them and become a vagrant again, ashamed that he will be remembered only as a villain. Siegel and Shuster shifted to making comic strips, which they self-published in a book they called Popular Comics. The pair dreamed of becoming professional authors and believed that syndicated newspaper strips offered more lucrative and stable work than pulp magazines.

The art quality standards were also lower, making them more accessible to the inexperienced Shuster. Siegel and Shuster often compared this version to Slam Bradley , a comics character they created in

The 53 defense is the most commonly ran defense in youth football. This youth football defense puts 8 defenders in the box to defend the run. You can run zone or man coverage out of the 53 quite easily.

TO BUY – http: This book represents the knowledge and experience I’ve accumulated in my more than 25 years of running and teaching the Double Wing. Those who’ve already ordered it and have been waiting can tell you how long it’s taken me to put it together. My intent is to show how I build the offense with “blocks” – teaching the linemen just 8 “Building Blocks.

It’s the most detailed “how-to” book on the Double Wing ever published. For those coaches who might want to adopt my system, the playcards are already in the book, prepared and ready to go. In my opinion, this alone is worth the price! Since I have been running your system for so long now, is there much value added with this one or is this for people just beginning? This is certainly designed to help the first-timer get up and running, but it’s also a major upgrade for the hard-core Double Wing coach.

Coach, Except for a series from punt formation, this one is all under center. Mine came on Saturday and i have been studying it non stop! I appreciate all the hard work, it’s well written and as always well done with great illustrations.

Single set back Typical singleback formation Also known as the “ace” or “singleback” formation, the single set back formation consists of one running back lined up about five yards behind the quarterback. The basic singleback set does not employ a fullback. The other players that are not on the line of scrimmage can either act as tight ends or wide receivers. This formation is normally used for a pass play, but can also be good for running, as defenders must move at least one player out of the middle of the field the “box”, between the tackles on the offensive line to cover the additional wide receiver or tight end.

Since an extra wide receiver is lined up in the space between the tackle or tight end and the outside wide receiver, he is called the slot receiver. Spread formation A variation of the ace is known as the spread formation. It utilizes four wide receivers and no tight ends.

Man-to-Man Defense — Complete Coaching Guide The traditional man-to-man defense is by far the most common defense in the game of basketball today. This is especially true as players progress to a higher level of competition. In fact, due to the great outside shooting of professional players, every NBA team almost exclusively plays man-to-man defense. Of course, there will be times when players switch opponents or help each other on defense, but for the most part, each player is responsible for one player from the opposition.

I would like to thank Adam for asking me to write this article for Direct Snap. Adam asked me to write about the switch to 8-man football and our 8-man single wing offense. We run the spin series almost entirely with some direct snap and buck lateral series as well. My first exposure to the single wing offense was during a football theory class at the University of Northern Iowa.

Shortly after graduating from college I accepted a coaching and teaching job in Sigourney, Iowa where I spent 4 years as an assistant with Bob Howard at Sigourney-Keota, Iowa. After 4 years I moved to northern Iowa and accepted my first football head coaching job. I was taking over a program that had not won a game in 3 years during my 4 years at Sigourney-Keota coach Howard had led the Savage Cobras to a record and 1 state championship with a group of seniors that had NEVER won a football game at any level of organized football dating back to 7th grade.

That first season we ended up with a record on the year; finishing the season with 2 wins in a row and playing our best football. We ended the season scoring 70 points in our final game and the kids were sold on the offense. It was fun, unique and potent. To give a point of reference, the team had negative total yards in 2 games the prior year. I wanted to run the single wing for the following reasons, the same reasons that Bob Howard talks about in his single wing manual: I knew that there would be some grumbling from fans about the offense because it is not something that you see on TV on Saturdays and Sundays that has changed with the University of Florida and the Miami Dolphins.

Motion or continuity offenses will contain passes, cuts and screens in either a free flowing system that enables your players to make reads and decisions, within some basic rules or in a fixed pattern that will lead back to the starting formation to be repeated. Motion offenses are great for youth basketball because they allow every player to handle the ball, make decisions and have scoring opportunities that will help their development. They also won’t confine players to specific positions based on their size, so young players will have a chance to work on many different skills and gain experiences at different spots throughout a game.

There are motion-based offenses that can be run against both man-to-man and zone defenses, and these basic sets can be effective for your youth team. Man-to-Man Defense Basic Motion Basic Motion begins with the ball handler in the middle of the court, beyond the 3-point line, or “up top. Players 4 and 5 on the wings will set down screens on the defenders guarding Players 2 and 3 on the block.

The T formation is the precursor to most modern formations in that it places the quarterback directly under center (in contrast to its main competitor of its day, the single wing, which had the quarterback receiving the ball on the fly).. It consists of three running backs lined up abreast about five yards behind the quarterback, forming the shape of a T.

And even if you did attend one, every clinic differs slightly – and besides, you couldn’t possibly have written down everything! And, just in case – there’s a bonus card with no defense on it at all!
